The book will be presented by Dr Ante Žužul, the director of Školska Knjiga, Dr Milan Pelc, the director of the Institute of Art History, Dr Ana Šverko, one of the book’s editors, and Damir Gamulin, the designer. Dr Mate Maras will conclude the book launch.

Robert Adam and Diocletian’s Palace in Split is a co-publication of Školska knjiga d.d. and the Institute of Art History. It is the result of an academic conference dedicated to the British architect Robert Adam and Diocletian’s Palace. 250 years ago, in London, Adam published one of the most significant works on this structure from late antiquity. The illustrations from Adam’s publication are reproduced in full in the current volume, while the texts were written by the contributors to the international conference in Split. Their essays are accompanied by more than 200 illustrations from numerous world museums and galleries.

The book deals with three important themes: Diocletian’s Palace, the significant publication that the architect Robert Adam dedicated to it, and the influence of the Palace on his own work and European Classicism. Motivated by the richness of the visual materials and the exceptional essays that where all painstakingly reviewed by Dr Iain Gordon Brown, one of the leading experts on Adam’s opus, the editors decided to publish a book that was more than just an ordinary collection of papers. In this the designer Damir Gamulin played an important role, and in an original and imaginative manner shaped the textual and visual elements, thus contributing to the better understanding of the various interpretations of this theme. We present you with a book which, through its cultural and artistic connections, ties Great Britain and Croatia together in the best possible way, and offers an enjoyable reading, and aesthetic, experience.
