At its core, architecture is an optimistic art. There is no other choice for a discipline whose purpose is to give built form to the future. It cannot exist unless architects and their clients believe in a better tomorrow, so even in the grimmest of times, when many of its practitioners are beaten down by the chill wind of economic reality, the arrival of a significant new work of architecture gives cause for cheer.
