Founded 150 years ago, designed by János Petschnig and inaugurated in 1859, the Grammar School named after Ferenc Toldy is a most significant historic building at the foot of Castle Hill in Víziváros. With bands of yellow and red raw brick running on the facade, its Romantic-Neo-Gothic-style body is a definitive component both in the spectacle of the turn-of-the-century Buda side and the contemporary cityscape. Its architectural values have mainly preserved the conditions of its construction, revealing the fact that the building was lucky to avoid extensive reconstructions and additions as well.
