A Dead End Is a Good Start

Genre and media definitions are irrelevant for the complex installations of David Maljković, which are remade each time, depending on the specific requirements of the exhibition premises. Along with video, they include sculptures, collages, ready made objects and architecture. As a rule, his works created before 2003 redefine their surroundings and remind us that, despite our deeply entrenched prejudices, an exhibition is not a timeless ideal space, but a historically determined experience, its meaning largely defined by its reception, and that the “white cube” of the gallery is a mere convention.
