The only and true city space that our subconscious accepts is still the historical city core. Everything outside that area belongs to the zone of extra aesthetics; not necessarily in the sense of ugly, but something which is illegible and different.

Zagreb’s Trnje district, being an in-between space, an urbanized landscape or landscaped city represents a very suitable area for the elaboration of uncoded symbols.

Trnje, formerly on the city’s periphery, is situated next to the city centre, between the railway line and the River Sava. Until the Second World War it was a workers’ settlement consisting of narrow, winding, intertwined roads.
