The mutual intertwining of art history and science is traceable from the time of ancient Greece up until today. Artistic and scientific research tools have always been similar and complementary and the dominant connecting link was technology with its research methods. A more intensive connection between art and science developed during the Renaissance period, mainly owing to the work of Leonardo da Vinci, who became a paradigmatic example of artist/engineer/scientist. At the beginning of the 20th century new scientific advances developed new media technologies, thus enabling the expansion of human senses, a broader simulation of space and visitors’ participation, illusion and interaction.
