Nothing Is Accidental

The Lapidarium (collection of stone monuments) in the garden of Eggenberg Castle in Graz is no coincidence; it is a minutely planned piece of work by the authors Purpur.Architektur. They have surprised the competition jury by simply placing the required competition programme below ground.

Dead tombstones and other finds: this reminds us of a boring school excursion to the archeological museum. Children, yawning, a boring lecture that seems endless. The Austrian architectural office Purpur, with studios in Graz and Vienna faced a construction task of such content. The garden of Eggenberg Castle should have been the location of some sort of envelope for mineral finds of all sorts so that the visitor would stay alert during the visit.
