Piero Castiglioni comes from a family with a long tradition in creative design for mass production: his father and two uncles were indeed part of the history of Italian and European product design. Piero Castiglioni was born in 1944, and graduated in architecture at Milan Polytechnic in 1970. Two years later, he participated in the famous exhibition “Italy: the New Domestic Landscape” in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which marked the beginning of the global affirmation of Italian design. 

He has dedicated most of his creative career to lighting in architecture: he has designed individual lamps in co-operation with the companies Fontana Arte, Osram, Stilnovo, iGuzzini and Venini, and lighting systems for exteriors and interiors, with special emphasis on museums and galleries.
