Eight years ago the United Nations conference concluded with a program called Agenda 21, a plan of action which needed to be undertaken in order to protect man’s environment from further excess pollution and an unsuitable exploitation policy. It is precisely such resolutions, which promote, unconditionally, an end to the destruction of nature, that serve as a foundation for this year’s EXPO 2000 that opened in early June in Hannover. “Mankind – nature – technology” are the key words of the exhibition which, at the turn of the millennium, has brought together and united more than a hundred and seventy countries with the aim that they prove to each other (and themselves) the purposefulness of the five-month intensive program.
