Museum - A Secular Temple of Today

written by Nada Vrkljan-Križić

According to their function and activities, the museums of today are in many ways different from the museums of the past. Whereas in the 19th century till the beginning of 20th century museums were primarily meant for a small elite, people who had enough time and money to enjoy the pleasures of life – culture and art, today’s museums are not built simply to house certain collections or individual programmes. They are also designed to regenerate the cities themselves and to significantly supplement the cultural offer of a city making it attractive in every way and for the widest public possible.
