Designing educational facilities, especially kindergartens and schools has, fortunately, been growing in importance in Austria in the last decade. Of course, in the 1960s and 1970s there was a number of ambitious projects, which deliberated on architecture and educational studies in a novel way, but for some reason or another they have not managed to engender more permanent changes. Since then, there have essentially been several projects of innovative architecture; however, conceptually those largely followed traditional typologies.

Following the changing educational requirements, these issues gained new impetus. The significance of spaces for the education has been recognized, which is why the interest of educators in the formation of such spaces has been increasing.
