Boris Ljubičić Loves the Square and the Circle

written by Feđa Vukić

This is the statement graphic designer Boris Ljubičić has been advertising through a variety of communication media, from posters to business cards. The message is at least double-coded. Firstly, it refers to features of the Croatian identity through the formal absence of any letters with their diacritical marks in letter-forms that are purely virtual, typography that is, in the global conditions of the culture of today, more than ever before, communication. It also refers to the author’s personal involvement over the past thirteen years, to his study of the form of the square (or to be more exact, two squares) as the basis of that same (national) identity.
