Ivica Buljan describes himself as a homo teatralis shaped by various European cultures. He is most renowned as a theatre director, director of drama at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb and a former director of drama at the Croatian National Theatre in Split. He began his career as a journalist, critic, theoretician and dramaturge. As a director, he is extremely focused on an actor and successfully implements a plethora of different theatrical strategies – from avant-garde and post dramatic, to traditional, elitist and popular. He directs plays in Croatia and abroad.
