Desire for Modernity

Research and scientific interest in humanities has always possessed a rich poll of subject matter. The subject of research interest in humanities is regularly based on something personal, be it biographical, generational, class-related…

British cultural studies from the 1960s would not have emerged had there not been for the generations of experts who grew up working class and had a personal incentive to develop a research tool to gain access into the culture they grew up with, the culture of their parents and/or peers. The great reshuffling of the canon that occurred in the criticism and science of arts, beginning with the 1990s, cannot be understood without bearing in mind that this reshuffling was done by a generation raised on punk and new wave, a generation that had a need to canonise their own youthful affinities.
