Contemporary architecture has lost interest and confidence in working in the historic city. Architects seem to have an inferiority complex concerning past architecture, finding it unfeasible for their opportunistic branding or considering it inessential for our time where the desire for effect and image has replaced the search for meaning and has directed building away from real architectural problems (which are always political and civic).
