Adjusting structural solutions and spatial articulation is perhaps the oldest theme in the history of architecture. Efforts to manage physical laws and materials’ prospects are directly associated with geometry and the perception of space, ways to link interiors with the environment, some functional aspects and other architectural topics. While the mainstream of the modernist era insisted on ‘rationality’ and often reduced structural concepts to the abstraction of a ‘regular raster’, or exclusively instrumental questions of efficiency and immediate profitability, the logic of the interrelationship between construction and space remained somewhat out of focus.
