Exhibition by Stephan Mäder Sketches

20/03/2019

We are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition titled Stephan Mäder: Sketches, which will be held on Monday, 25 March 2019, in the Oris House of Architecture (Kralja Držislava 3) at 6 p.m. Remarkably productive ouevre of the architect will be presented in a variety of themes dominated by architecture in the landscape or urban context. Croatian scenery is presented at the sketches depicting Kvarner and Dalmatia. A bilingual exhibition catalogue, which includes the text written by a Slovenian architect and professor at the Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture Tadej Glažar, will be available during the exhibition.

The relevance and attractiveness of an architectural drawing or a sketch as a live tool and method of an architect’s record are revealed in a sort of a life diary of architect and professor Stephan Mäder from Zürich. We can experience the fragments of his life journey in the sketches presented in Oris House of Architecture.
The first exhibition organised by Oris magazine was presented in Zagreb in 2003 under the title Oris Idea. It included many architectural sketches made by international architects who cooperated with Oris magazine. Andrija Rusan and Nikša Bilić wrote in the catalogue that the exhibition was one of the last exhibitions which still and in greater part lived with the times and reflected the idea of an architect in a sketch, and that such exhibitions in the future would mostly be retrospective and present the past.

We can say that the exhibition of sketches by Stephan Mäder contradicts the aforementioned prediction. Most of the sketches were indeed done in the past, but new works he has created most recently are also presented in a lively relation. It is this continuous creation that records the experience of time in documents of space and life, which puts the exhibition into a framework that transcends the past.
