Umjetničke intervencije u urbano tkivo grada – cvjetne instalacije Darka Fritza – oblikovane su i održavane u materijalima koji se redovito rabe u hortikulturi: cvijeće, trava, humus i šljunak. Ako ispisuju “nađeni” tekst iz računalnog jezika, riječ je o izvještaju – reportu – o pogrešci u izvršavanju kompjutorske operacije implementiranoj u protokol stroja. U takvom se projektu manipulira organskim procesima rasta, razmjenom tvari kao metaforom razmjene ideja; simbolizam cvijeta i estetski doživljaj, te krhke i efemerne senzacije nastoje se dopuniti konceptualnim značenjem (Jeff Koons je, naprotiv, dao napraviti golemu cvjetnu skulpturu štenca, prizivajući kombinacijom materijala i forme sladunjavu ljupkost i sentimentalni kič – prema definiciji umjetnosti kao sredstva manipulacije).

Darko Fritz’s floral installations are artistic interventions into the urban tissue which use regular horticultural materials: flowers, grass, humus and gravel. If they quote computer information it is usually a standard error report programmed in the machine. These projects operate with organic growth, with the exchange of substances as a metaphor of information exchange. The symbolic content of a flower and its aesthetic perception as a fragile and ephemeral thing have been added a conceptual content (by contrast, Jeff Koons’ huge floral puppy combines form and materials producing a sugary and sentimentally kitschy effect, which corresponds to the definition of art as a means of manipulation).
