Sajamske priredbe i velike izložbe su u povijesti uvijek bile prigode za realizaciju velikih arhitektonskih projekata te izazovi za arhitekte i inženjere, jer su obično kod takvih prestižnih arhitektonskih zadaća imali veće mogućnosti za propitivanje novih konstrukcija, tehnologija i materijala. To naročito vrijedi za razdoblje nakon druge polovine 19. stoljeća, kada se počelo s organiziranjem velikih industrijskih izložbi i sajmova.

Fair shows and great exhibitions have historically always been occasions for the realization of great architectural projects, and challenges for architects and engineers, because they always present greater possibilities for examining new structures, technologies and materials in such prestigious architectural tasks.
