Sejemske prireditve in velike razstave so bile v zgodovini zmeraj priložnost za uresničitev velikih arhitekturnih projektov in izziv za arhitekte in inženirje, ker so imeli pri teh prestižnih arhitekturnih nalogah navadno večje možnosti za preizkušanje novih konstrukcij, tehnologij in materialov. Še zlasti to velja za obdobje od srede 19. stoletja naprej, ko so začeli organizirati velike industrijske razstave in sejme.

Fair shows and great exhibitions have historically always been occasions for the realization of great architectural projects, and challenges for architects and engineers, because they always present greater possibilities for examining new structures, technologies and materials in such prestigious architectural tasks. Especially so during the period following the second half of the 19th century, when the organization of large industrial exhibitions and fairs started.
