Architecture as Paradoks within the Urban Complex

The lecture that Robert Venturi held in Istanbul on International congress of architects in Istanbul, May 30th 2005

What I’m about to describe can be defined as: Architecture as Paradox within the Urban Complex – and can be subtitled: Architecture where Universality and Multiculturalism are Juxtaposed – Universality constantly engaging the Technology of Form – and Multiculturalism variously engaging Symbolism on Surface – this latter element to Create Community via Communication – all for a Mannerist Era.

Concerning Multiculturalism, of course, much is written today about cultural diversity, pluralism, interaction and context: let us now create an architecture that explicitly accommodates it all – Ethnic, High, and Pop cultures – within an urban context.
