The term existing light refers to a lighting technique using ambient, natural light of the interiors and night exteriors outside the film studio, in a real, existing environment. It has its roots in modern photography, which relies on highly light-sensitive films and high-intensity lenses. Filmmakers have adopted existing light with major adjustments, which in turn produced a new movie style and aesthetics.  This made a major impact on filmmaking, especially for the cinematographer, director and set designer.
