Architecture of the Absence: Searching for Lightness

architect Jordi Badia
project Funeral Parlor, Terrassa, Spain
written by Josep Maria Montaner

Perhaps the first feature that needs to be borne in mind in connection with Jordi Badia is that he is a former student of Tonet Sunyer, an architect with whom he collaborated for a number of years. Here lies the source of his rational functionalism, which very often ends in minimalism, the architecture of pure presence, of simple forms suspended in space and time. Tonet Sunyer is distinguished by his beautiful and timeless family houses, where luxury of space is achieved by a restricted selection of materials and with no decorations at all.
