An Interview with a Cause

ORIS: It’s interesting that recently the problem of wine cellars has intrigued some important architects. The Californian Herzog&de Meuron Winery, for instance. In Austria, actually in Burgenland, young architects such as gerner°gerner plus, and Propeller-Z are working in this sector.

Podrecca: Steven Holl is also building in Langenlois (Lower Austria). As for the Californian winery, Herzog’s dry stone walls in the metal net are now crawling with snakes – it’s a disaster. “Electa” is soon to publish a book on this. Many people are going back to wine growing and making fine wines. Most are not your typical wine producers… they’re amateurs – Epicureans.
