The 1980s were the vintage years of Slovene photography. They saw numerous changes in form and content, the affirmation of new iconography, and the demythologisation of the “artist” mentality that pressed heavily on amateur photography clubs. The so-called “Ljubljana alternative scene”, along with the fact that a number of seasoned art photographers decided to join the ranks of the professionals regardless of their formal education, led to a radical shift in attitude towards photography as a medium. It adopted a very specific, autonomous role in the area of visual production and was no longer merely a continuation of painting with other means or technology.
