The name Kalterer See is known for two reasons, as a wine brand, developed recently from cheap product to exquisite tipple; and as an idyllic, comfortably warm Alpine lake. However, it is not only the landscape and the wine that has made Kaltern a region of comfort. The city’s mayor, open to new things, together with his close advisor Walter Angonese, a local architect, and with committed businessmen, has in recent years turned this spot in the South Tirol into, also in an architectural sense, a hotspot. Directly on the main road on the way to the bathing resort designed by the next ENTERprise architects, there is Winecentre, designed by feld 72 architects, offering regional products; then follows the PUNKT wineshop, to the design of Hermann Czech, where one can take a rest or have a look into the Zum Lustigen Krokodil bar, the joint work of Angonese and Alois Mayr, an artist. Further along, it is good to stop by Manincor wine property, also designed by Angonese, this time together with Rainer Köberl and Silvia Boday.
